In December 2019, Jember Regency experienced inflation of 0.54 percent, which is indicated by the increase in the consumer price index (CPI) from November 2019 by 132.56 percent, up to 133.28 percent in December 2019. From eight CPI cities in East Java, all cities experience inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Surabaya by 0.60 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Probolinggo by 0.28 percent. This month, East Java experienced inflation of 0.53 percent and National inflation of 0.34 percent.
Of the seven expenditure groups, six expenditure groups experienced inflation and one expenditure group experienced deflation. The expenditure group that experienced the highest inflation was the foodstuffs group of 1.76 percent; followed by the transportation, communication and financial services group inflation of 0.28 percent; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco by 0.26 percent; clothing group by 0,18 percent; health group inflation by 0.11 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel inflation by 0.07 percent; while the education, recreation and sports deflation group was 0.02 percent
The commodities that contributed the most to inflation were purebred chicken eggs, shallots, vegetable tomatoes, chayote / jipang and inter-city transportation. Whereas the commodities that contributed the most to deflation were purebred chicken, salted fish, cell phones, chicken liver and red chillies.
The calendar year inflation rate and Jember Regency's year-on-year inflation rate in December 2019 experienced inflation of 2.04 percent; This figure is lower than calendar year inflation and December 2018 year-on-year inflation which experienced inflation of 2.95 percent.
In December 2019 the core component experienced inflation of 0.12 percent and the volatile food component experienced inflation of 1.96 percent while the administered component experienced inflation of 0.31 percent. Out of 82 CPI cities, 72 CPI cities have inflation while 10 CPI cities have deflation.
