he Consumer Price Index (CPI) is one economic indicator that is often used to measure the level of price changes (inflation / deflation) at the consumer level, especially in urban areas. Changes in the CPI from time to time indicate price movements of commodity packages consumed by households. In Indonesia, the inflation rate is measured by the percentage change in the CPI and announced to the public at the beginning of each month (first working day) by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

From the results of price monitoring in October 2019, Jember Regency experienced inflation of 0.05 percent, which is indicated by the increase in the consumer price index (CPI) from September 2019 by 132.12 percent, up to 132.19 percent in October 2019. For seven the last year in October, namely the period 2013-2019 inflation occurred three times and four times deflation. The lowest deflation occurred in 2016 of 0.26 percent, while the highest inflation occurred in 2018 of 0.24 percent.
