The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is one economic indicator that is often used to measure the level of price changes (inflation / deflation) at the consumer level, especially in urban areas. Changes in the CPI from time to time indicate price movements of commodity packages consumed by households. In Indonesia, the inflation rate is measured by the percentage change in the CPI and announced to the public at the beginning of each month (first working day) by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

The development of various commodity prices in January 2020 generally showed an increase. Based on the results of monitoring by BPS in Jember Regency, in January 2020 there was an inflation of 0.38 percent, or an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 103.34 in December 2019 to 103.74 in January 2020. The inflation rate for the January 2020 calendar year was 0 , 38 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (January 2020 against January 2019) of 2.43 percent.
