Every year on 26 September has always been celebrated as the "day of NATIONAL STATISTICS".
Why national statistics Day fell on September 26th?
Here's the history. Statistical activities in Indonesia has already started in the 1920s when when it established the Office of statistics in Bogor by Director van Landbouwen Nijverheid Hendel (Director of Agriculture and Commerce). Four years later, the institution was renamed Centraal voor de Statistiek Kantoor (Central Statistical Office). The location also was moved to Batavia (Jakarta).
After the independence, June 1, 1957, the Central Statistical Office changed its name to Central Bureau of statistics. These changes are determined through Presidential Decree RI number 131 in 1957. The task of the Bureau is to conduct the census. To further fine-tune the census activities and to meet the UN recommendations so that each of the Member States organized a census of the population simultaneously, the Government of Indonesia on September 24, 1960 enacted law number 6 of 1960 on Censuses. This ACT is in lieu of Volkstelling Ordonanties 1930.
Two days later (26 September 1960) launched a law that is more comprehensive, i.e.Act No. 7 of 1960 on Statistics as a substitute Statistiek Ordonantie 1934. The ACT regulates in detail the Organization of statistics and BPS. In August 1996, President of Republic of Indonesia, Soeharto, set the date of the promulgation of law number 7 of 1960 on Statistics is commemorated as national statistical Day.
This year the theme is "Through our National Statistics Make Indonesia Smart with Data quality".
