In March 2020 Jember experienced inflation of 0.34 percent with the consumer price index (CPI) of 104.62 percent. Of the eight CPI cities in East Java, seven cities experienced inflation and one city experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Jember Regency by 0.34 percent while deflation occurred in Malang by 0.41 percent. East Java deflation of 0.01 percent.
Of the eleven expenditure groups, eight
expenditure groups experienced inflation, two expenditure groups experienced deflation, and the rest were stable. The expenditure group that experienced the highest inflation was the personal care and other services group of 0.98 percent; followed by the food, beverage and tobacco category with inflation of 0.77 percent; household appliances, equipment and routine maintenance by 0.31 percent; while the expenditure groups experiencing deflation were the information, communication and financial services group by 0.01 percent and sports and cultural recreation by 2.77 percent.
The commodities that contributed the most to inflation were filtered clove cigarettes, gold jewelry, bottled water, granulated sugar and oranges. Whereas the commodities that contributed the most to deflation were cayenne peppers, red chilies, garlic, children's toys and sweet corn.
